Archeology
The ancient name of Ildırı Village, located 20 km north-east of Çeşme, is Erythrai. The discoveries within the city indicate that this region has been inhabited since the Early Bronze Age. Erythrai joined the Panionion religious and political union established by the Ionian cities. They experienced a short period of tyranny with Payhagoras. Erythrai earned acclaim through its trade activities in ancient times. During the excavations, the ancient theater on the northern slopes of the Acropolis, which is thought to have been built after the 3rd century BC, was unearthed. Remains of the Temple of Athena were also found during the excavations on the highest plain of the Acropolis and it was understood that the city was surrounded by a 5 km long city wall.
History-Culture
There are many cultural assets in the region such as Çeşme Castle, Caravanserai, Çeşme Museum, Parga Hammam, Erythrai Ancient City and each of them is a must-see. In addition to the renowned Alaçatı Herb Festival and Reisdere Kite Festival, numerous other festive events are hosted. The streets of Alaçatı provide a rich opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant culture of the region.
Nature
Beautiful bays and beaches such as Ilıca, Boyalık Beach, Ildırı Bay, Şifne-Büyük Port-Paşa Port, Dalyan and Sakızlı Bay, Koca Karı Beach, Tekke Beach, Cleopatra Beach, Delikli Koy Beach are fascinating. Alaçatı stands out as one of the most captivating and diverse surfing destinations in Europe. Pırlanta Beach is named after its sand that shines like diamonds. There are many routes and trails in the region for nature lovers.
Gastronomy
Çeşme, renowned for its vibrant farmers’ markets, distinguishes itself through an array of natural and organic products. When you visit Germiyan Village, you should taste the Germiyan village bread. If you want to eat a local Ovacık melon in summer, you should visit Ovacık farmers’ market. Çeşme’s culinary offerings are exquisitely abundant, adorned with the allure of vibrant greens and an array of fresh herbs including sweet dandelion, nettle, sorrel, blessed thistle, and sea beans.
